Two of the disciples of Jesus were on their way to a village called Emmaus, seven miles from Jerusalem, and they were talking together about all that had happened. Now as they talked this over, Jesus himself came up and walked by their side; but something prevented them from recognising him.
Often we don’t see evidence of God’s activity, that he is listening or helping. Sometimes he even feel abandoned by him: if God loves me, where is he! John the Evangelist highlights for us the problem with drawing conclusions too quickly about what’s going on. The reality is God loves us – always – and is serving us – always: but are we really in tune with what he is doing? And what he is saying to us, and trying to say to us through particular experiences? Let’s ask Jesus today to help us by removing all that prevents us from recognising him, and his action, in our daily life.
