“I had the privilege of visiting Emmanuel School of Mission in the Bronx and meeting some of its great students. Thank you!” (His Eminence Timothy Cardinal Dolan on Twitter)

On December 5, 2018, His Eminence Timothy Cardinal Dolan graced the Emmanuel School of Mission in New York by his presence.

Here is our sharing:

As Advent is the time of waiting and preparation, the visit of Cardinal Timothy Dolan, helped us to apply this more concretely.

Praise, preparing songs, learning how to pronounce “His Eminence”, prepping-up the house, putting the best clothes … were ways to welcome in a more special way our dear guests who have made ESM NYC possible and the Cardinal.  It was a joyful atmosphere!

Upon the arrival of Cardinal Dolan, he warmly greeted each one, wanting to do his best to remember each of them.  As a true Catholic Irishman does not enter a home empty handed, he gave is a gift for the chapel – a statue of the Holy Family.

In the Cardinal’s homily, we were reminded of what Emmanuel means and the longing from the Old Testament for Emmanuel. “God is the Son, Jesus is Emmanuel, Jesus is with us. His passion is present and true. Patience, hope, and the confidence that hopes are fulfilled during the Advent season. Emmanuel Community coming to New York as part of God’s strategy.  Thank you to the ESM you are an inspiration and light to the world.”

After mass, we moved to the living room for a meet and greet, a chance for him to get to know the ESM students and members of the community.

Fr. Thomas from Sts John and Paul in Larchmont, NY shared of the faith that he has been drawn to in the Emmanuel Community, remembering asking Cardinal Dolan to not only to be a priest of the Emmanuel Community but to ask, with the board members, to bring the ESM to New York. Students from several countries also gave their testimonies of gratitude for their mission here in the Bronx, quick stories of how they found themselves here. God is always present.

We are so grateful for the visit of His Eminence Timothy Cardinal Dolan. The spirit he brought to us, the confidence and faith he taught us on this day … will remind us the importance of praising each day to awake on Christmas day with the joy in our hearts that Jesus, the Emmanuel has arrived.”
