Pierre Goursat (1914-1991) was a humble lay person who was both contemplative and a man of action. Since his conversion at age 19, he had been burning with love for Christ, compassion for the poor, and zeal for evangelization. He was 58 years old when he made the 1972 experience of “the outpouring of the Spirit” and founded the Emmanuel Community. Led by a great charity, it gives rise to many apostolic initiatives. In the spirit of Vatican II, he helped form a new generation of lay people, and priests in the service of the Church. He was a pioneer of the “new evangelization”.<\/p>\n

He retired from the council of the Emmanuel Community in 1985, and from then until his death, the rest of his days were spent before the Blessed Sacrament. He died on March 25, 1991.<\/p>\n

Cardinal Lustiger presided over Pierre\u2019s\u00a0funeral and paid tribute to the man in whom he admired “the way in which the Lord opened the path for him, and how he had answered it”. Since then, Pierre Goursat continues to help people, far beyond the Emmanuel, to turn to God and live as apostles of Christ in the world.
\nWith the agreement of Cardinal Andr\u00e9 XXIII, Archbishop of Paris, the cause of canonization of Pierre Goursat is officially introduced in January 2010. This step was taken on Saturday, December 19, 2015: the diocesan phase was officially closed at a ceremony open to all in the church of the Holy Trinity in Paris.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
